“We wanted to get them on tour, and they said, ‘No. They’re doing good on their own already.’”
Good for Turnstile. They’re absolutely blowing up from their raw talent and unique spin on hardcore music. They’re honestly turning into a pop sensation while still maintaining their roots in Baltimore’s hardcore scene.
“What a vibe they bring. Go see them play if you can. They sound great on their records and recordings, but if you see them live you totally get it. We’ve hung out with them a bit. Super cool guys, super fun. They’ve got a gal in the band now, which is fun,” Hetfield added.
Meanwhile, Metallica has been a laughing stock since they tried to jump on the nu-metal bandwagon with St. Anger over two decades ago. It feels like they never completely recovered from that disastrous attempt to reinvent themselves, and seeing them court Turnstile while bringing Limp Bizkit along for their 2027 tour makes it seem like they’re still chasing that vibe.
Metallica used to be one of my favorite bands back in the day. …And Justice for All was the album that got me into the metal scene when I was younger, and even though I like to talk shit, St. Anger was a great comedy album — one of my guilty pleasures to this day. I still have that gif of Hetfield spazzing out and screaming “FRANTIC-TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TOCK!!” somewhere on my hard drive.
In all seriousness though, this washed up band of ultra wealthy metal bros completely lost me when Hetfield chose to sit on the fence as a political statement.
Dude literally trash talked bands who use their platform to stand up for something, then turned around and tried to recruit Turnstile for Metallica’s overpriced stadium tour. Turnstile. A band that openly supports Palestine, has made an Instagram post calling to abolish ICE, and just played a free benefit concert in Washington, D.C. for humanitarian relief.

You really gotta see it live to get it. You really gotta see it live.
